I took a chance on whether this book would provide me some tips on strategy for two-player games. Turns out, it really didn't. I also learned that for the most part when our family plays canasta we're playing by official rules. There are a few differences here and there, but nothing major. There are also a few rules we play by that weren't mentioned in this book. Overall the book was fine, but I wouldn't recommend it to someone who was just starting to learn to play.
A good book which demonstrates why sensible bidding never goes out of style.
