As a huge fan of Rimbaud and the emotional rollercoasters his works created, I approached this with some trepidation. It was a wonderful surprise to find this work by Pearson to be both tributary, reverential, and original at the same time. The "update" to the format is not overwrought and the author's voice is clear but the channeling of Rimbaud is also wonderful and accurate. A bold work that succeeds on all levels.
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.A dark and brooding collection of poems that reflects on the way familial relationships mold us, scar us, and haunt us. The author follows his brother's memory into the varied and inhospitable landscape of hell, searching for him amongst the human wreckage he finds there.
The author has a powerful economy of words that frequently strikes the reader's mind with a line like a wrung bell. The echoes linger long after this slim volume is closed.
