New Roadside America: The Modern Traveler's Guide to the Wild and Wonderful World of America's Tourist by Doug Kirby
Fun book that tends towards the camp side, but author does get a bit heavy handed with sarcasm on occasion. Filled with tourist traps that parents are loathe to go to but are fun just for their kitsch factor. He breaks it down into several different types of things. Animal attractions wit diving pigs and trained animals. Spaced themed things from real museums to just places with a "UFO" out back. Several "world's largest" sites to see. Gigantic statues with the likes of Paul Bunyan and Pedro show more at South of the Border. show less
New Roadside America: The Modern Traveler's Guide to the Wild and Wonderful World of America's Tourist by Doug Kirby
This is one fun book, filled with "must see" attractions for those of us tired of high culture and/or stunning scenery as destinations. This is as campy as it gets. I mean, who DOESN'T want to climb up into the mouth of a gigantic fiber-glass walleye?
