This book was a leap out of my comfort zone as a reader. Outside of the occasional King book, I literally had not read a horror novel before. It unlocked something for me. I feel like I will spend the next year trying to find another that captures a similar essence. The characters, the folklore, the identity crisis, the trippiness, the cultiness. But the real sauce that makes this book special? Hate to say it: Craig. Craig is both Aoife's tether to reality and the infection that she show more must overcome.
I'll admit, the opening felt a little shaky to me but I am so so so grateful I continued. I sincerely hope this book gets the acclaim it deserves and sells many copies. show less

This was so strange. I usually love a lovecraftian monster, but the main character becoming that monster? I don't know if that pov worked for me. I liked the setting and atmosphere, but the characters didn't quite win me over.
