"Happy are the Christmases that are shared with cats!", October 9, 2014
This review is from: Lesley Anne Ivory's Christmas Cats (Hardcover)
Purchased as Christmas gift for friends in Sri Lanka, and it absolutely fits the bill!
Fifteen full-page colour pictures of beautiful cats - predominantly tabbies - in festive poses... Amid the decorations, gazing longingly at a bauble on the tree, peeping out of a gift bag, or lying on a woolly sock (my favourite.) Also several in front of windows, show more watching the snow fall or looking at a village street scene or a church.
Amazingly drawn cats, and the backgrounds just capture England at Christmas.
Opposite each image is a little relevant quote from a work of literature, and a few sentences underneath by the author, commenting on the cat (these are all illustrations of her own pets). show less

This is another beautifully illustrated book that is sure to please the cat-lover, the artist and the animal-lover. My first known "finding" upon the work of Lesley Anne Ivory was a miniature version of this particular book and I was foolish enough to give it to someone else who was a cat-fan. And now I have been able to purchase my own copy along with her other Christmas book "Cats & Carols".
This book is very simple yet a gorgeous addition for any Christmas collection. The artist uses show more matching borders on both of her pages while on the right she includes one of her famous paintings of her cats. She then puts on the opposite leaf the name of the painting followed by a beautiful Christmas quote from various sources such as Charles Dickens, Walter de la Mare & Thomas Love Peacock just to name a few. And then following the quote she has a paragraph that explains the cat and its corresponding picture whether it is a tradition that is happening in her home, where the beautiful background is at such as St. Albans and what part of the painting was influenced by something in her home or a familiar loved one's home.
This is definitely a beautiful book where you can look at the pictures for as long as you want and still always find something new. show less

This was a beautifully done book that was both a compilation of Christmas lyrics and the beautiful cat artwork of Lesley Anne Ivory. It is definitely a good collector's book for both cat-lovers and those who are wanting to find a good Christmas book for the holidays.
The artwork was gorgeous and so was the set-up of the book. The book had the song lyrics on the left page while on the opposite page was one of the famous paintings of cats with a background that both tied in with the matching show more borders on both pages and the song itself. My faves were "In The Bleak Mid-Winter" and "Away In the Manger" for the pictures were so beautiful.
Definitely a must... show less

These are the sweet and funny stories of the cats that Leslie Anne Ivory owns. The first thing we learn is a history of her cat ownership, and then she profiles her cats one by one. She then talks about the stories of all her current cats, many of whom are descended from one another. Each cat's story is full of amusing anecdotes.
