đâThe Wolf at the Doorâ by Kate Wiley
âââââ¨
If I needed a reminder that hiking isnât for me, seven skeletons found along the Appalachian Trail is more than enough. I will be indoors, staying hydrated on my couch.
Thanks to the author and Storm Publishing for the #giftedARC via Netgalley. All opinions are my own.
"The Wolf at the Door" is the second book in Kate Wiley's Margot Phalen FBI series, and while I really liked the first one, this one is darker, twistier, and even more show more addictive.
Margot Phalen hunts serial killers, which is basically my love language as a thriller junkie. She's also the daughter of one of America's most notorious serial killers, so she has a very specific skill set when it comes to getting inside the minds of monsters.
This time, Margot and her team are pulled into a chilling case on the Appalachian Trail, where hikers have been disappearing, and secrets are buried in the woods. The trail scenes are quiet, eerie, and so atmospheric that I could almost hear my own heartbeat. Did I hate it? Not even close. I ate it up.
This book is dark, tense, and just the right amount of creepy. The outdoor isolation is unsettling, the killer feels way too close for comfort, and Margot knows exactly how wild the chase can get.
If you like serial killer thrillers, FBI investigations, and series you can sink your teeth into, Kate Wiley needs to be on your TBR list.
Feeling brave? Take this book on your next solo hike. show less

Out of the Woods: An addictive crime thriller packed with suspense (Detective Margot Phalen Series Book 5) by Kate Wiley
OUT OF THE WOODS by Kate Wiley
âOut of the Woodsâ is book five in the Detective Margot Phalen series, and yep, I started with the last one. Classic move for me! Turns out, it didnât matter. This book stands on its own, but I'm tempted to binge the first four just to see what kind of chaos I missed. The silver lining? Sounds like Wileyâs planning a spinoff, so maybe Iâll actually get in on the ground floor like a normal person!
Detective Margot Phalen has been chasing the Redwood show more Killer for over a year. Think San Francisco, bodies in the middle of Muir Woods, and a police department thatâs not exactly squeaky clean. And because Margotâs life isnât complicated enough, her very own dad, Ed Finch, is a convicted killer who just wonât let go.
Margot and her partner, Wes, have this spark that keeps things interesting. I was actually rooting for them, and I donât even like romance. When Margot tries to cut ties with her dad, things get messy fast. This is the kind of thriller thatâll have you double-checking your locks at night.
If you like detective series, serial killer mind games, or characters who juggle brains, grit, and messy emotions, youâll want this series on your radar.

âTELL ME HER NAMEâ by Kate Wiley
MARGOT PHALEN FBI SERIES - BOOK #1
đđđđ
âTell Me Her Nameâ got under my skin fast. Margot radiates serious FBI vibes that make you sit up straighter just by reading her. Sheâs sharp, unshakable, and not here for nonsense. Most would need therapy with a serial killer dad, but Margot turns it into a superpower to get murderers to spill their secrets.
Thanks to the author and Storm Publishing for the #GiftedARC via NetGalley.
Margot storms into show more prison, chatting up killers like itâs just another day at the office. Then bam, her world turns upside down. At home, juggling work and life, her partner Wes gets arrested for murder. The evidence is damning.
She keeps grinding on her case and interviews the so-called Sleeping Beauty Killer. Heâs chilling, and the way he toys with her mind is fascinating. Itâs a sharp reminder of why Margot is both brilliant and terrifyingly good at her job.
Thereâs zero chance of getting bored. This first book is a wild, binge-worthy ride. If you love fierce women, complicated backstories, and serial killer mind games (who doesnât?), âTell Me Her Nameâ is calling your name.
