This completely comprehensive reference is not the kind of book you read cover to cover. But if you're a medical professional trying to figure out what's up with a patients pain, you could do no better than this massive reference. My wife, a retired nurse, still keeps this volume close. On the other hand, if you're not a medical pro you'll need at least a basic medical vocabulary (or access to a pro to translate) and if you've got that it works great as a kind of hypochondriac's bible - show more believe me, every possible human ache and pain is in here somewhere! show less
Presents nursing assessment skills in the reader-friendly Incredibly Easy! format that makes learning fun. With an appealing 4-color interior and light-hearted humor throughout, this title provides the know-how nurses need to obtain pertinent health histories, perform physical examinations, and recognize normal and abnormal findings.
This book has been more useful to me than I ever thought. It is straight forward and in dictionary form, making it very easy to navigate.
"Pain Management Made Incredibly Easy!" is divided into four parts. Part 1 covers the fundamental concepts of pain, including the anatomy and physiology of pain, the experience of pain, and pain assessment. Part 2 covers common types of pain as well as pain specific to AIDS patients, cancer patients, pediatric patients, and elderly patients. Part 3 discusses managing pain, including pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic approaches to pain management, acute pain management, management of show more surgical pain, and alternative and complementary therapies. Part 4 concerns patient education about dependency and abuse and lifestyle management. Appendices cover web resources, the IASP classification of chronic pain syndromes, and various pain assessment scales. The book continues the user-friendly approach of the "Incredibly Easy!" series, using Nurse Joy and friends to make the text entertaining as well as informative. show less
