A Jack the Ripper themed time travel/sci fi romance and it kicks booty!!!

I have had this book on my wishlist for so many years, like probably since I started blogging have I had this one on my list. Thats a dang long time to have a book on one's TBR. But I really enjoyed it and was super funny. It definitely had a OG feel to the writing style of it, but I quite enjoyed it. I really enjoyed how this story was developed and the elements of sci fi with time travel left me on the edge of my show more seat.

So basically the gist of the story is that the hero, is from the future about 300 years from our time period. He is a elite warrior, and called a "warlord" which is a protector and goes on all sorts of missions. So think secret ops of his time. He is called to task on a mission to go back in time to (our day, and try to rescue a woman who is about to be killed by the Jack The Ripper who has been causing ripples of time killing innocent women. But when he meets Jane, chemistry explodes between them. He is determined to protect her even knowing that he will be leaving and that their time together is very temporary.

What was most intriguing was first their first meeting, because its kinda stalkerish but I was down for it. haha There is such great alpha vibes in this one and we also see how well these two get along together even when they are fighting. And the warlord's sidekick wolf creature, yeah he was awesome. Always trying to get them to have sex together, it was pretty awesome! I was so fascinated in seeing how they came together. Now the whole Jane coming to the truth, I was on board with. I was so happy that she didn't fight what was the truth in front of her. It was quite refreshing to have an heroine who was on board with it all and willing to do her part.

I wouldn't say that this is a perfect book, the pacing is a bit off at times throughout it and it did have a style of writing that took some adjustment because this style of writing is NOT common these days. But I was really drawn into this couple and adored seeing them together. I am curious about this world and this author for sure. I definitely will be exploring more of her works and soon!

Four stories of varying quality (for me, anyway), from four series I don't know (and three authors I don't, one I know well). The first one, Angela Knight's "Enforcer", is very well-written, with great characters and a fascinating world. It's clearly part of a series (and apparently the climax), but it stands alone just fine. I want to read more, but don't feel that I need more info to understand this story. The sex is just a trifle too explicit for me, but not terrible, and the rest of the show more story is great - as I said, I want to find the rest of this series. Second story is Jennifer Ashley's "Perfect Mate" - didn't work for me. I wasn't caught up in the characters, story, or setting; Cormac is a trickster, Nell is rather limp, and everyone else seems to be just background. Also the setting made no sense to me (exactly what do Shifters get, to make them willing to wear the stupid collars?). The story annoyed me and I wasn't interested in seeking out more. Third is Jean Johnson's "The Hunter's Cabin", which...wasn't as good as Knight's story. Good story in itself, but it drew too hard on the rest of the series which I haven't read. Now I happen to know that Jean Johnson is a great writer and I love all her stuff, so now I want to find the rest of the Vulland Chronicles and read them - but this story wouldn't have done it for me. I like both Keris and Vee, the sex is explicit but not too much so for me, the situation that gets them isolated is clever (but again, not knowing the rest of the story, it's hard to tell exactly why they're there. Lots of exposition that gives the background, but not the specifics - what hunter why, why hiding now, why running now... I'm confused). But I know and trust Jean so I expect that when I've read the whole series everything will make sense - and as I said, the story itself is good, it's only the frame that's fuzzy. And the last one, Hanna Martine's "No Surprise More Magical", totally didn't work for me. The only obstacle between them was both of them being idiots and not _talking_, and I hate that trope. The situation didn't make a lot of sense to me - the why and how of the rebellion and so on - which meant that most of the stuff about relative ranks and rites and so on was nonsense (to me). And there were a few bits of language that didn't work for me - for instance, these guys think they're a master race, right? So just how did they settle on non-magical being Primary and them being Secondary? That so totally didn't make sense to me that every time either one was mentioned I had to stop and remember which was which - throwing me out of the story. Do not like. So two good stories and two that didn't work - definitely worth reading, and probably rereading (the two good ones, not the others). show less

This one was weird even in the context of a very weird series. So in this one in addition to vampires, witches, fairies and werewolves we add in dragons. And not just any dragon but a dragon who has been magically imprisoned in sword, but it’s cool because he has a mental link with one of Arthur’s knights who carries him around. I told you…it’s weird. That said, I’ve come this far with this series so I was willing to see where it went. And, for the most part, it was pretty standard show more for the series. It wasn’t anything special in the writing department but the character development was actually a bit better in this one. Mostly I come back for a quick moving plot that doesn’t require too much thought…which is exactly what I got, and I’ll keep reading until that’s not the case. show less
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Vivacious Valkyrie - Marta:
*Copy gifted in exchange for an honest review

I confess to loving the books by this author that are set in her Magaverse world and was so pleased that this anthology includes a full length story from there. This book also contains two very short stories as well and they have something in common, fangs and dominant men! These stories are hot and peppered with kinky sex, bondage and of course blood! Entertaining to read but not for show more those who only want a sweet romance as this book should come with a heat warning!

The first story "Oath of Service" features Morgana Le Fay, a witch who serves Arthur and his knights but she is a constant thorn in everyone's side. Indeed throughout the Magaverse series Morgana has been a character full of shades and she has always had her secrets . In this story we learn more of her past and some of the reasons for her harsh manipulative ways come to light. Morgana has always known that her feelings for Sir Percival could bring her to her knees but she's about to discover things about herself that she has never anticipated! Percival is a dominant male with fierce appetites and to have the tasty Morgana under his control is a heady rush that he cannot resist.

The second was a very short story "Be Careful What You Wish For" and features a trio of vampires who set out to rescue a damsel in distress but unfortunately there's an evil wizard at work and he plays dirty! As this is very short I cannot really give much away but I will say it continues with the sexy vampire theme that runs throughout this book and unfortunately for this reader was the weakest offering. It's quite an abrupt beginning and I personally didn't really connect with any of the characters but given the length that's not surprising.

The final short story is " The Bloodslave" a futuristic piece that has three vampires getting their hands on a human female. These hungry (in so many ways!) males cannot believe their luck when they find the virgin human Verica alone and so very far from home . She's their captive but is she about to turn the tables on them? I really enjoyed this story as it's got my favourite kind of hero, strong sexy definitely alpha and yet open to new possibilities. Although a novella there's insight into the characters which really helps hold the readers attention. Loved it!

Angela Knight is one of the most consistent authors around. Her books are plot driven with twists that leave her readers gasping. This book scorches with her own unique brand of sensuality although those readers who do not enjoy the more kinky aspects of BDSM may find this not their particular cup of tea! It's quite mild so please don't be put off and remember it's just an excuse to wallow in the fantasy of those lovely dominant men! Hot is a word too often used I feel, combustible seems more fitting! A must read for Angela Knight fans and a sneak peak at the end of her next book! Fabulous stuff!
