Co-written by a "theological animator" as Ched Myers calls himself and a pastor, Matthew Colwell, the book has a rhythm of fresh theological thinking about immigrants and immigration from relevant biblical passages, interspersed with stories of real people doing the work of immigrant justice, whether working at the border or in the Latin-American countries that send immigrants to the United States. Myers explores both the biblical context and the geopolitical and economic contexts in which show more immigration happens. They are explored for a deeper understanding on why immigration happens and the realities both of home countries and U.S. immigration law that lead to migration without documentation. He challenges the North American church to be involved in some work of hospitality toward immigrants, while Colwell tells of people who are doing that work, most of whom will be unfamiliar to the reader, as all but one were to me. I liked that rhythm, perhaps because the biblical analyses felt more dense in their analysis of scripture and explanations of border realities, and the profiles felt more like stories, well told. This is a useful book to add to the body of work about immigrant justice, particularly from a Biblical perspective.
