Polly Pepper was a star back in the Golden Age, but she hasn't had a film role in ages and is really POed when her old rival gets the part in a new film after the character actress dies of a heart attack. Was it really a heart attack?

Then comes a twist when old rival is found dead at the bottom of the high school pool with no water. Who killed her? Should Polly risk taking on the role since there have been two deaths?

Polly with her faithful servant, Placenta, and her gay son, Tim, set out to show more solve the mystery and get Polly back in the limelight.

I didn't like it. At least 1/3 of the pages were filled with name dropping, and film history per se. There really wasn't much character development and the mystery was very easy to solve. Not a series I will continue anytime soon.

This is one I bought awhile back and never seemed to be in the mood to read. I finally made myself read it and it was much better than I was expecting. (Did anyone else picture Brent as Hugh Jackman?? Without the british accent?) The restaurant stuff was reminiscent of "Latter Days," but maybe that's what life is truly like in West Hollywood. Everybody's a waiter. The transition into the escort business was believable. As weird as it may sound, I liked Derek better at the end than at the show more beginning, regardless of his chosen profession.

On a scale of 1 to 10, a 6.

Gary is let go from his job as a ice skating commentator. He also has just broken up with his long term lover. He soon joins a touring an ice capades show. He and a couple of buddies also encounter an Eve Harrington type newbie who's not whim he appears to be. Not as funny as some of the other books by this author but still good.
Auntie Mame is one of my favorite characters in literature and if you're a fan of the theater & movies, you'll enjoy this insider's look into how the play, movie, & musicals were made from the book.
