This is a great beginner informational text for young children! This book goes over basic and categorical information dealing with amphibians and reptiles. I love how a lot of this book is written in almost a storybook fashion. For example the first page begins by saying, "Imagine a time millions of years ago - a time when great, warm swamps covered much of the earth. The giant, land-roving dinosaurs did not exist yet. But the sea was filled show more with prehistoric creatures, swimming and searching for food". I thought this was a great way to open up an informational text without it seeming boring. This introduction made me excited to read the rest of the book even though i knew it was going to be facts and not a story. Also this book using hand drawn illustrations and diagrams which adds a nice touch. show less

This book is a great starter book for new readers. It has a basic word list for children to learn from. Some words are repeated often to help the young reader develop word recognition and interest in reading.
