I didn’t actually get to make any juices since at present I’m concentrating on making and consuming Medical Medium Anthony William’s Heavy Metal Detox Smoothies, the intake of which is imperative to healing from autoimmune diseases.

But I found the book valuable.

There is a long list of ailments/diseases in alphabetical order, basic dietary advice about how best to heal the ailment, followed by seven suggested juicing recipes.

For example, for osteoporosis:

Calcium-Rich cocktail is show more made from 3 kale leaves, a small handful of parsley, 4-5 carrots, greens removed and ½ apple, seeded.

For Varicose Veins:

Garlic Express, for which you should use a handful of parsley, a garlic clove, 4-5 carrotss, greens removed and 2 stalks of celery.

I see that many of the listed juices contain 4-5 carrots.

There are recipes for underweight people, e.g.:

Sweet and Sour Cherry Cream

I cup cherries, pitted

4 oz nonfat yoghurt.

At the end of the book, various diets are suggested together with recipes for a juice fast.

It is not only about juicing but gives much general dietary advice.

I borrowed the book from the library, but when I decide to start juicing regularly I may purchase it.

Perfect for : Personal Use

In a nutshell: This is a very well-thought-out book. We've been eating processed foods for so long, it is nice to know there is something we can do to help reverse some of the damage they are doing! There is a very strong message throughout the book, encouraging the reader to eat better by including more vegetables and fiber, and reducing red meat, sugar and highly processed foods. The authors have addressed all the main toxic areas in the body, providing helpful show more information on detoxing and fasting in order to heal and cleanse the body to become healthier. Each chapter includes facts pertinent to the subject, as well as supportive instructions. For cleanses, they include a sample menu with references to recipes within the book. Overall, it is easy to find information using the Index or chapter headings if you don't want to read the whole book.

Extended Review:
I was amazed to find a lot of information on Candida, a yeast-like health issue that one of my close relatives has suffered with for years. I immediately called my relative and read some of the book over the phone. She was so excited to hear what the book said, and can't wait to follow the cleansing suggestions to relieve the symptoms she has had for years! I can see how this book can be life-altering in a great and natural way!

Content: The content supports the book very nicely. It starts by talking about health, then explains the how's and why's of juicing, fasting and detoxing. The book then goes into the specifics of cleansing your colon, liver, gallbladder and kidney. It then progresses into more detox programs and cleansing yourself mentally and emotionally. In the final chapters the authors include information on the nutrient content in food, recipes to use while fasting and detoxing, and a nice resource guide.

Format: The chapters flow nicely, providing the reader with some great information. I was never confused while reading, but rather caught myself nodding several times in support of what was being explained. In addition to providing great information in each chapter, the authors have also provided some great guides on the nutrition of foods, recipes and resources as a wrap-up at the end of the book.

Readability: I found the book easy to read. The authors have presented factual and scientific information in a way that everyone can understand. The index is easy to use and helps the user find things quickly.

Overall: The book provides just about everything you need (except a juicer, vegetables/food, and supplements) to detox and cleanse your system in order to become healthier. I plan to try a lot of the cleanses and recipes in an effort to become healthier and more energetic!

Beautiful book. The pictures alone made me want to go on a smoothie binge. The recipes seem easy and delicious with commonly found ingredients (except for a few items like dandelion greens and pickled plums). Most of the smoothie recipes serve one or two which was the deciding factor in buying the book. The other smoothie recipe books I considered had recipes that yielded two quarts. However, if you don't have both a juicer and a good blender that will grind ice, half the book will be show more useless. I don't have a juicer, so the first half of the book was unusable. Also, many of the smoothie recipes call for fresh juice, so some of them are out for me as well. Even so, there are enough intriguing smoothie recipes to keep me happily blending for quite some time. show less
In an effort to add more fruits and vegetables into our diet, I've been looking at smoothie recipes. My chiropractors really recommend them as an energizing breakfast, packed with nutrition. I think this can be true if the smoothie recipe focuses on healthy ingredients without added sweeteners.

The Ultimate Smoothie Book contains a lot of great information regarding the best ingredients to use in smoothies and what nutritional benefits each food adds. It is well-organized with informational show more sections before you actually get to the smoothie recipes. The smoothie recipes are also organized into categories which makes it easy to find the type of smoothie you are looking for. I love that each smoothie recipe also has a nutritional breakdown per serving.

I was a bit thrown off by the book beginning with a section on juicing. I wasn't looking for a book on juicing - I was looking for smoothies! Calbom puts a great emphasis on using fresh fruit and vegetable juices in her recipes, which would unfortunately necessitate another piece of kitchen equipment which I am not interested in purchasing at this time. Calbom also uses ice frequently in her smoothie recipes and claims that a regular blender will be able to handle this. Maybe some blenders can handle ice well enough to make a truly smooth smoothie but I know mine cannot.

The majority of the recipes included in The Ultimate Smoothie Book look really tasty. Unfortunately, I've decided that I'm going to need to wait until I have a better blender and warmer weather to actually try them out. Smoothies in the middle of winter just don't sound very appealing!
