The Learning Works: Prefixes and Suffixes, Grades 4-8: Teaching Vocabulary to Improve Reading Comprehension by Trisha Callella
This works well for focusing on one prefix a week--nice, concise, easy-to-understand definitions for the selected words (to be given on, say, Monday), 2 activities for practice (1 mix & match hands-on activity & 1 whole-class read-around or "I have/Who Has"), and one fill-in-the-blank multiple choice quiz for, say, Friday. So far, my kids are enjoying the routine as I usually don't teach words in isolation like this, and I'm getting about 50/50 results as far as long term retention of the show more meaning of the prefix. So far, it's worth continuing and I like how so much prep-work is done for me, here.
Warning: There are quite a few errors in mine, a problem I assume will be ironed out in future editions, so make sure you have taken each test yourself before giving it and make necessary adjustments. show less
