This book only had pictures of coins for you to count. It helped with addition but didn't really teach the value of money. I think it would've been helpful if it showed things we could buy with these coins so that kids can learn the value of money. For example, they could've counted 50 cents and had a picture of a lollipop, or 5 nickels which makes a quarter which can get you a gumball from the gumball machine. More natural connections could have been beneficial since there wasn't much show more layers of meaning. This could also help enable discovery of wonder by having the reader wonder what they could buy with 5 quarters. show less
One of my very favorite tales, so when I saw it in the library catalog I had to request it. Turns out it is indeed very simple. No drama - the other animals help from the beginning, and nobody is lazy, clever, a martyr.... But the Vegetable soup they make sounds good! I'd teach this in a homeschool setting for sure, and I'd find a recipe that used these ingredients.
I liked this book! It's not the conventional children's book anyone would typically think to read, but it's very helpful for students learning to count money which can be very difficult! Throughout this book, there is rhyming, and pictures of the coins which makes it very engaging and interactive as well. On each page, students have to try to figure out how much money each page is asking for, and it is revealed on the next page! I tried to see the difference of the coin size on the pages vs. show more real life, and they are life size drawings which I find extremely beneficial for students struggling with the size aspect of counting money (penny is larger than a dime, but is worth less). The main point of this book is to assist with counting money! A life skill they will always need to know how to do! show less
Learning to count money can be difficult. This cute rhyming book makes it easy to understand for all ages. It illustrates how each one of the coins adds up to a dollar. its also explains how you can exchange different coins for others. For example, if you have five pennies that is also he same amount as one nickel. It includes actual pictures of pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, half dollars, and gold dollars,
I love this book because the rhyming words make it catchy to young children. It show more also teaches math.
classroom extension
1. have students count fake money
2. make a little "student store" and have the children buy things with their fake money show less
