Special collection of poems used at the Calvert School in Baltimore, MD. My daughter used this book last year for 3rd grade in her Language Arts class. Various poets are represented such as Emily Dickinson, Robert Louis Stevenson, John Bunyan,Ralph Waldo Emerson, John Keats, and Edward Lear. These short poems expose the child regularly to good quality poetry in short bursts. My favorite poem is 'Thanksgiving Day' by Lydia Maria Child, better known in song as 'Over the River and Thru the show more Woods'. I never knew this was a poem. Another one I really enjoyed by an anonymous poet was entitled 'Mr. Nobody'. It describes what regularly occurs at our home--lots of messes and mischief, all accredited to 'Nobody'. There are several poems here that describe characteristics of nature, such as the seasons, flowers, stars, and the wind. show less
