This slim volume brings together a number of folk tales and legends from the island of Gozo, Malta. It consists of a loose adaptation in English of the Maltese folk tale anthology "Għawdex joħlom fil-Leġġendi" (Gozo dreams in legends) by Gozitan poet Ġorġ Pisani. This edition is directed mainly at the tourist market and is accompanied by a map of Gozo showing the setting of each legend. Most of the featured folk tales in fact are in some way related to the topography of the island and show more could be described as "place myths" explaining a particular feature of the landscape or some ancient monument (whether prehistoric menhir or medieval chapel). The style is occasionally florid but does not distract the reader from the simple fantasy of these traditional tales. show less
