Bought this book "back in the day," 1997, wanting to learn more about Linux and other so-called "alternative" OSes. Even though I didn't succeed in installing Linux on my PC at the time (still too noobish, and Linux installs of that period were not forgiving for noobs), I'm glad I bought it and don't consider it a wasted read at all.
Been running Linux (and only Linux) for four years now. Here's to humble beginnings!

I suppose all computer books get out of date very quickly. In the past I have appreciated the "Dummies" books to help me with my computers, but I don't find this Linux one as helpful. It doesn't cover some of the newer Linux systems such as Suse and Ubuntu.
