I am a huge fan of Lauren Carr’s, so when I saw a chance to get a copy of her latest Mac Faraday Mystery, Candidate for Murder, how could I resist?

A familiar cast of characters and Lauren Carr’s humorous hints had me guessing in this murder mystery.

OMG…Gnarly is under investigation. He’s running for mayor of Spencer and the mudslinging has begun. His competition will stop at nothing to undermine him.

After seeing the promo for the movie PETS, it is easy to visualize the mischief of show more Gnarly and his cohort Storm, a canine Bonnie & Clyde. Here’s just one example: feasting on a romantic dinner for two that was not intended for them.

“If you were smart, you would have put them outside before levaing our dinner unguarded.”

“I did…But I forgot to lock it!”

The writing and dialogue keeps me in stitches as the political campaign heats up. An old murder is being investigated and the city of Spencer will be rocked. Outrageously funny. Unputdownable. Spoofing politics makes this a MUST READ during our political times.

Greed, ambition, God complex, entitlement, ego, sex, money, power…

Every time I think of the kittens Gnarly saved, a laugh bursts forth.

So much is going on, I am having trouble figuring out who the bad guys are. I love that.

OMG!!! The best Mac Faraday…yet. Lauren Carr is a master storyteller who combines the humor of Janet Evanovich and the investigative skills of Patricia Cornwell. She is always at the top of my reading list.

I received a copy of Candidate for Murder from Lauren Carr in return for an honest review.

Shortly after reading Killer Deadline, the first book in the Nikki Bryant Cozy Mystery series by Lauren Carr, I quickly turned to book 2: The Wrong Side of Murder. Because cozy mysteries aren’t what I usually read it was exciting to slip into another fun mystery.

Nikki is a keen, strong woman with lots of personality and Ryan is a great support for her. I like their unique relationship. You would think a murder mystery would be kind of dark and somewhat of a downer, but the author has show more managed to make it quite heartening. It’s unique in that Nikki is seeking to prove someone’s innocence rather than guilt as well as seeking out the guilty party.

I am so glad I sneak some new genres in now and then because reading these Nikki Bryant mysteries has been loads of fun. I loved the characters, was able to visualize the scenes with ease, enjoyed revisiting Pine Grove, and love that the mystery was far from predictable.

First Line (Prologue): How is it possible? How can he act like nothing is wrong when our world is falling apart?
Genre: Cozy Mystery

I have been loving the Chris Matheson Cold Case series by Lauren Carr for four books now. I think it would make a fabulous TV series, along the lines of Bones, Castle, or Rizzoli and Iles. I do love humor with my murder, add some unique critters with huge personalities that are a source of amusement, and I feel you can’t go wrong. I think my favorite may be Sterling. He sure does shine in many ways. Also, Thor. What a cutie pie.

Tis the season and there is a mystery to be solved. Will they show more get it done in time to enjoy the holiday season? I like to think so.

“What would have happened if someone had killed you?”

You Mom and the Geezer Squad would have hunted the bad guy to the ends of the earth and brought the full force of hell down on him.”

That’s an example of Lauren Carr’s writing style that hooks me and keeps me coming back for more in this cold case series. The characters shine and pool their investigative skills under the guise of a book club. The Geezer Squad is on the case, so the villains better beware.

Chris Matheson may be a retired FBI agent, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be any dead bodies in his future. The interaction between the characters, human and animal alike, are mixed with murder and danger, with a sprinkle of romance scattered throughout. I laughed, I worried, I got down right angry, but it all worked out in the end…except for the bad guys.

I love cold cases. They tend to creep up on the characters, leading them left, right, up and down and all around. Revenge and greed may be the death of someone, but I’m not telling who. The ending…I loved it. I had some things figured out, but I didn’t know THAT was coming until I got there. What a fabulous surprise and I was left with a feeling of satisfaction for a job well done, Lauren.

There were several bumps in the road, otherwise this would have been a 5 star review.

Is that a lycanthrope that stole that hamburger patty right out of Orville’s hands? LOL

I think I know the answer to that question. The critters in Lauren Carr’s books have distinctive personalities that have me laughing, and at times worrying about them.

Newman is a basset hound TV addict. Don’t mess with his remote. Gnarly, a German Shepherd, is a force of nature. Spencer is the sweet loving female of the group.

Archie has her own thoughts on the death of the vice president’s wife and show more I do love a good conspiracy. Was the president their target and Paloma just in the wrong place at the wrong time? Lauren Carr has thrown in so many twists and turns and multiple mysteries that make me wonder what they could possibly have in common.13 victims. Is there more than one murderer?

I read The Nutcracker Conspiracy in one sitting. I couldn’t believe how fast I flew through it, having to know who would be the next victim and why.

Lauren Carr has upped the game in this mystery, thriller, police procedural. There are a lot of characters, so to choose my favorites is hard for me to do. Of course, the dogs are always a hit and I look forward to what they are up to next. The love and romance is sweet and sexy without the details. Who wouldn’t love to have a husband like Murphy?

Every time Lauren Carr has a new novel, I jump at the chance to read it. She keeps me entertained, unable to put the book down until the last page is read. She keeps the mystery alive and the story filled with lots of action that is so well written it is easy to fly through the pages…having to know who did what to who and having some laughs along the way. I do love some humor with my murder. 🙂 I will be waiting…patiently (?)…for the next book.
