Short biography
[excerpt from Cleveland Public Library website]
Katharine Kenah is the author of more than 30 books for children. She writes picture-book texts and science-related book series for beginning readers. Reared on an oceanographic observatory in New York state, among scientists and cats, Kehan developed a strong interest in the physical sciences, in particular, Earth's plant and animal life, and the environment. Before becoming a writer of children's books, Kenah worked, for several years, in scientific research. Her first book, Eggs over Easy, was published in 1993. Kenah settled with her husband, son, and two daughters in Granville, Ohio. It would be several more years before she would return to writing children's books with The Dream Shop (2002).

The Amazing, Incredible You explains to children that everyone is unique and even if you are not like someone else, it does not mean that you are not as important or special as the other person. Most children go through a phase where they do not accpet themseleves and are hard on themselves or others and this book is an excellent book to go to in order to remind students that every student is unique in their own way and to embrace their own differences.
Living in New Orleans, where the occasional flood is not so occasional, Flood Warning gives the reader personal insight about flooding, and how it affects our neighborhoods and environment. Given the geographical area, children can use background knowledge from personal experiences to make connections to gain a better concept of the process. The illustrations are perfectly matched with the age level as well as the informational text. The book also looks at the point of view of other cultures show more such as the Egyptians, and how they saw flooding as a ritual, something they encouraged. Comparing and contrasting different point of views touches on ELA standards students could implement through writing. show less
This tale is very relatable to children the same age as the main character. As children we have all been anxious to be the class helper, line leader, etc. But what happens when we aren't patient, this book was a cute read.

This is a fantastic series of books for beginning readers. My son gobbled them up. The subject matter is interesting, and the photograpy is gorgeous. Lots of repetition, so they're great for children just learning to read. We read all the ones which were available back when they were the appropriate reading level for my son.
