A short and sweet story of playing in the rain. I appreciated that the illustrations allowed for additional interaction between the reader and the text. The words on each page were minimal, but the activity taking place in each illustration was full of life! This short story tells the tale of a girl and her dog enjoying a rainstorm. Vibrant illustrations are paired with few words on each page. This allows for a great deal of the story to unfold in the mind and imagination of the reader vs. show more the authors text telling the whole story. The use of words that describe sounds could provide for a great introduction to onomatopoeia poetry. This book could be used in a variety of ways with students Pre-K through grade 2. show less
This book captures the idea and power of a kiss, and the feelings behind it, perfectly. Young readers will easily feel and understand the message behind this story. Kisses and hugs are something that many younger children can relate to and crave at times. Genre, Contemporary realistic fiction
I didn't think this was the greatest book, but I was planning storytime with no time to prep. So I read it anyways. I did the rain sound noises in a silly sing-y voice and had the kids repeat them back to me. Lesson learned, preschoolers can only do like 2-3 words before having trouble. It went pretty good, I'd read it again probably.
A perfect rhyming text to bring the class together in terms of similarities and a perfect text to open a discussion on differences. This book, hopefully, helps children ask their own questions about the content and that, hopefully, leads to deeper classroom engagement.
