After seeing the movie I WALK THE LINE and a mention of this book, I was curious about the truth behind both versions.
The book gives an honest portrayal of the emotions of Vivian Cash as her life with Johnny Cash crashed away into lies, alcoholism, drugs, and adultery.
It definitely could have benefitted from some serious editing as around 50% of Vivian's word are constant repeating of sad refrains.
Johnny's letters to Vivian as she waits three long years for his return from the Air Force in show more Germany are illuminating and overflowing with love and hope.
Regrettable racist remarks by Cash after a "negro" called him a "bus driver" = ??? are never redeemed. show less
