This is based upon Nicholas Spark's novel of the same name--which I found unreadable drek. I found the film much more watchable than the book was readable. It was likable, even moving, in its cheesy emotionally manipulative way. James Garner was even nominated by the Screen Actor's Guild for Best Actor in a Supporting Role and I can see why. But among the best romantic films of all time? Not on my list.
Acting: 4.5; Theme: 5.0; Content: 4.0; Language: 2.5; Overall: 4.5
Noah Calhoun (James Garner), now well up in years, reads from a "notebook" to his wife, Allie Hamilton (Gena Rowlands), who now has dementia, as they live out their years in a retirement home. The "notebook" contains a written picture of the love a young Noah (Ryan Gosling) and Allie (Rachel McAdams), had for each other. Highly recommend with the following cautions.
There were at least 10-15 uses of profanity, with at least show more three of them using God's name in vain. There was also strong content of sexuality several times.
