An enjoyable light romantic comedy based in Greece. Nia Vardalos stars as a frustrated tour guide, who gradually gets to know her very mixed bunch of tourists over the course of a few days.

Lots of caricatured cultural references (not just Greek ones, though they're in the majority) and some quite poignant moments too. Recommended for adults and older teens wanting a light evening's viewing. Rated 12 but unlikely to be of interest to anyone younger than about 15.

It’s American propaganda, straight from the Econoburo, right. Misogynistic. Of course, they’re both attractive people. I wish they weren’t try to lie to me, the puppet masters. Of course, with American propaganda, it’s not so much as a lie, in the conceptual sense; as a dare, right….—I hate women; and I lie about it, what are you gonna do about it! That’s right: nothin’! Mmm! I’m lovin’ it! Somebody hand out the awards! “We…. Didn’t win awards.” I was talking show more about the money we made. “Not an award, though.” Wait until you see where I live, man….—

It’s interesting. Most things are interesting if you take them slow…. And it’s entertaining; it can be a little fun. And they hate women, and they’re lying to me, and they don’t care if I know, right.

So there’s that.

…. They should make a remake of this, called ‘The Bet’, in which Thayer would be a white cocaine dealer; Tony would be his muscle; and Matthew McConaughey would owe him money. McConaughey would kill a few guys, very sloppily, and Kate Hudson and the girls would find out and connive and be weird; and it would end with ~Benjamin Barry~ passing out in a pool of his own blood, while someone sang, “You’re So Vain”, but not like that.

But maybe I’m just pissy because the zodiac necklaces I wear under my shirt: the Moon is in Sagittarius today; but I couldn’t separate out the Sagittarius, because it was just one big clump…. And some days you’re stressed, and you’re like: Do I need this s***?

(sighs) Anyway. That’s just a thought. Right now, it’s a no-shoot, but if we get some money we can make it a concept and then turn it into an idea. (‘Annie Hall’, paraphrase).

Anyway.

A light-hearted romantic comedy that sees two people start dating for entirely the wrong reasons. Great acting, a cleverly written script, and a nice pace.

All a bit predictable, perhaps, but ideal for an evening's light-hearted viewing without too much thought required. Rated 12, but unlikely to be of interest to anyone younger than about 15 or 16.

Love Matthau and Lemmon, but not interested in the wanna-be sexual escapades of two septugenarians. Foul language also turned me off. Could see why some people like it though.
