Sadly, Crichlow’s interview sample is very small, only nineteen men. While the limited size does, perhaps, speak to the level of fear about speaking openly about their lives that black gay men might feel in Canada, it also makes it difficult for the author to extrapolate a good hypothesis from such a meager numbers. And number of questions remain unanswered. For example, how do men meet each other in such a homophobic environment? Are there any pleasures in these men’s lives? What are show more black gay men in Canada doing to foster community amongst themselves, rather than waiting for the straight black community, or white gay organizations, to invite them in? show less
