The Waterbirth Book: Everything You Need to Know from the World's Renowned Natural Childbirth Pioneer by Janet Balaskas
Got this from the library as am planning a home birth with a birthing pool. The whole book is great for this - very informative - but the section describing what is actually happening with your body during labour is just superb. Should be recommended reading for all, no matter how you plan to have a baby. I feel like I will totally understand what changes are happening now - how I cope with them is yet to be seen but forewarned is fore-armed and all that... ;o)
This book is a great reference for people planning a natural birth. It very much has a natural birth - no drugs - midwife care agenda, but this doesn't stop the information on the birthing process from being straightforward, calming, empowering and easy to read.
It was one of the more balanced natural birthing books I looked at.

Despite the fact that the info in the book is in some way out-dated, it was a pleasant experience and time well spent, in reading the book. Foto's are a so beautiful and humbling (even as just black-and-whites)... A solid step in Active Birth promotion.
This is the most helpful writing on childbirth that I have ever read. There is detailed information about various positions for laboring and what their advantages are.
