“...the dead were seldom pretty, because death was never pretty, although sometimes kind.”

WELL. I originally got this book for a bit of insight into embalming, as I’m hoping to do work experience in pathology and thought it might be useful to know. I didn’t expect to get drawn in so quickly!

Ed Christian doesn’t shy away from the topic of death which I think is quite refreshing as normally it’s viewed as taboo. To protagonist David, it’s part of his every day life as a student show more embalmer, and that is at the forefront of the story.

Normally I really don’t take to romance but it wasn’t overly forced, was kind of realistic, and paced very well.

Finally, I genuinely liked the protagonist. David was a well rounded guy - had his flaws and his positive attributes, definitely made mistakes, but just... I don’t know how to say it other than likeable.

If you can hack the slightly morbid setting and graphic description of embalming, it’s DEFINITELY worth a read!
