This is a book, (I believe in its first, 1996 edition by Nolo Press) that changed my outlook, changed the way I looked at working and retirement.
Before reading Warner's book, I had often thought that retiring would be better than working. Even though I had a fine job that I was good at, one where I was treated well, that job put a crimp in all the many things I really liked to do.
Warner gave me good useful advice, put things in perspective, and showed me how retiring was about much more than show more just enough money.
It prodded me to get busy preparing for retirement with as much determination as I had prepared for a career. I was 56 years old then, and knew it would take a while, but not too long after, my wife and I were both happily retired. show less

Confusing. They must have used outdated information, because there are lots of fancy words and little modern English. Also, there is a number of hard to read graphs and false information. There are plenty of CA real estate books out there, but this is one not to even look at.
A bit of financial advice, but numerous thoughts on retirement from the perspective of health, fitness, family and friends. Quality of life!
Independent Paralegal's Handbook: How to Provide Legal Services Without Becoming a Lawyer by Ralph E. Warner
Another great Nolo Press publication. Justice Gardner apparently lived long enough to see the profession he derided and attacked, only become useful and even necessary.
