A lot to like about this picture book celebrating differences. Using the metaphor of a greyscale line-based world that eschews other shapes and colors is a pointed one, but it allows young readers to center themselves in the story and use it to think about race, sexuality, gender, ability, and other ways in which they may feel othered. The illustrations are very child-friendly, with the pops of color standing out pleasingly against the mostly monochromatic backgrounds of Linneopolis. Perhaps show more the pictures are a little too busy at times, making it a little challenging to find Linus (who, after all, looks a lot like the other lines in his town), but that's a small gripe only. show less
