"The Picture Book of Great Explorers" by Gillian Clements is an informational book about the world's most notable and accomplished explorers. The book covers the earliest explorers to astronauts, detailing where they went, what they discovered, and how that impacted the world. I liked this book because it covers a wide variety of explorers. I think any child could find an explorer in the book that interested them. However, it is almost too much information given at once. This book would be show more good to bring out at multiple points during the year for history class. It could also be used as a research project for discussing the most famous explorers. This book is a good informational book because it is presented in a pleasing way with understandable language. It isn't overly fact-heavy. The media used for this book is watercolor. show less
In my opinion, I think this is a good children's book. I like that the biographies include inventors from around the world, just not from America. It includes Archimedes from Italy and Gutenberg from Germany, which is adds to the education of the book and multiculturalism. I also like the biographies. They are detailed, but are not very long or too difficult to read. The words are simple enough for older elementary students, while still appealing to their interests and grade level. The show more message of this book is to strive for greatness. show less
This book is about coutless inventors overtime. There are pictures, facts, side stories, and little comics on every inventor throughout the book. This book covers inventors such as, Galileo Galilei, Issac Newton, Alfred Noble, Archimedes, and many others. They cover invetors from the earliest times recored to present day. I like this book, but i do feel like the information is scattered everywhere. I feel it would be hard to read as a whole because there are so many side stories and pop ups show more that it takes you off track of the inventors story. On the other hand, this would also be a good book to do a class project on where all the student pick an inventor and do a project on them. show less
This book introduces the men and women who risked everything to explore the world, from the highest mountains to the deep darkness of the oceans.
