Beatrice Roethke

This is a poetry book for children that has several poems about different creatures. Some creatures are real animals and some are make believe. The few pictures that are in it are black and white. The book gives some information about each creature that the poem is about.
I personally liked this book. I really liked the main poem 'Dirty Dinky' because it talks about something or someone misbehaving and then at the end it says "watch out it may be you". I thought about how I would like to show more blame my messy house on someone else.
I would definately have the students write a poem about a special creature. I would tell them they could make one up or use their favorite animal. I would have them write at least one line of information about their creature. Then we would draw a picture of the creature and hang them up for everyone to see. show less
