I do love a good psychological thriller with some excellent gaslighting and truly nasty villains and Who Am I? was a delight to read! Freya wakes up from an accident with no memory of who she is or the people she is close to. She is taken home by the man who claims to be her husband, millionaire Carter who is twice her age, and things quickly turn quite odd after that. I love the way author Jane CR Reid sets the scene both for the lavish lifestyle Freya has been thrust into, but also for her show more sense of discontent, at nothing feeling right, at not knowing who she can trust when she can’t remember anything of her life from before. When strange things begin to happen and her memory seems to be acting up, Carter quickly grows more controlling and Freya is left to wonder if she’s losing her mind.
The gaslighting in this was very well done, and the reader is left to wonder if they can really trust anyone in the cast of characters in this book (my favorite sort of novel.) Monique, who is having an affair with Carter, is a delightfully despicable villain, and you just love to hate her. As things get worse and worse for Freya, you wonder how she will ever dig her way out. This made for an easy read that was cleanly written and nice and easy to follow. 5/5 stars. show less

The plot of Becoming Catherine combines time travel with hints of reincarnation and karma to make a story I looked forward to reading every time I picked up the book. It's about a young woman named Kate who contracts the flu and falls into a deep sleep. When she wakes, she's back in time, in the body of Catherine, the sister of Kate's ancestor Byron.
Byron and Catherine are the children of Bertrand Lloyd, a famous nineteenth-century opera singer whose career plummeted when he lost his voice. show more This “new” Catherine has to adjust to a different era with old-fashioned societal norms while dealing with Bertrand, who has a dark side, and with the fact that she doesn't know the “old” Catherine's history.
Jane C R Reid's writing and characters are excellent. I recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys paranormal stories centered on a dysfunctional family. show less

After learning she’s been adopted, Enya and her parents move into an old house whose beams used to belong to a ship. She has an affinity for water and a sensitivity to the paranormal, so the house is now influencing her dreams. When a strange calling she cannot deny takes her to the ocean, she embarks on a journey of self-discovery that will change everything she’s ever known.
Enya is such a smart, strong-willed woman. Even if she can’t pinpoint why, she knows deep inside when something show more feels off, like her shaky relationship with her parents. Tristan and Helen are interesting secondary characters who give Enya depth and add to the narrative.
This is just a personal thing for me, but the use of single quotation marks around dialogue was distracting at first. As I kept reading, I eventually learned to accept it.
Anyway, this is fantasy story is sure to please readers of who like a mix of psychic abilities, water power, and metaphysics.
