I don’t usually like Memoirs, but this was warm, witty, engaging and full of heart. The author mentions his cancer diagnosis, but this is more about family, friendship, community and loss. He speaks about his love of nature, living near the lake and the practicalities of constructing a house in the country, of electrical wiring and frozen pipes. The plumber who would have to charge him double if he were a Biden supporter (what would he make of a Brit!). How his grandfather had left him his show more tools and these were now treasured items. Going to college and meeting his first wife, his practice marriage, before meeting the love of his life. The pain and danger of ectopic pregnancy and after adopting a baby from a troubled mother, the stealing, drug taking and absconding of an ungrateful child. This is a wonderfully relatable story of a life well lived, with an emphasis on doing the right thing by nature and other people. show less
