I am officially a fan of Adam Carpenter. He writes beautifully and weaves a story worth reading. Having spent a lot my younger years in Manhattan, I felt the magic of the city the same way as Jimmy did. Strip away the dirt, roaches, garbage and the stink of urine and the heart of NYC shines. Jimmy McSwain is an unlikely hero in that he is quite dark and complex which makes the reader want to protect him from his own sharp edges. There are times when the man feels older than his twenty-nine show more years. Primarily a murder mystery, the story shines a small light on romance and many of the lgbt community's quirks. show less
Chad Singleton returns to the family home after the death of his homophobic father, only to find that there may have been more to his death than an accident while driving under the influence.

There was a very good mystery with soap opera elements struggling to escape from this trilogy and if the recaps from the earlier volumes had been cut and the sex scenes maybe halved it could have fit into a single volume. As it was, halfway through the second part I started rolling my eyes, and skimming show more and skipping the distractions to get back to the story. show less
I picked this book up looking for a good mystery and I got that and so much more. The story works as a stand alone but I guarantee that after reading this you'll be grabbing the first books in the series. I genuinely like Jimmy and his hang dog way of looking at life. I felt sad for him at the end but he'll pull it together and forge ahead. Light on the sex which worked as the book was definitely not a romance. Highly recommend!
I almost cued the soap opera music as I turned the pages. I thoroughly enjoyed the mystery. The over the top sex was expected as it is Mr. Carpenter's trade mark. Buff hairy men screwing everything loudly and passionately. I'm not sure how I feel about Eleanor though I understand her reasoning. Chad turned out just fine. Brett? I'm not sure...
