Gorgeous illustrated book, with excellent information about many common insects. But as a pedantic and nerdy person, I simply could not get past the constant misuse of the word BUG throughout the book. I would have to be stopping every third sentence to explain to the children that "bug" is, properly, a term for Hemiptera; June bugs are beetles, whereas cicadas and stinkbugs are true bugs. Spittlebugs are also bugs, but crickets and grasshoppers (being Orthoptera) are not... it gets old. show more This is an outstanding book for people who do not get hung up on teaching children accurate nomenclature. show less
Beautiful illustrations show both boys and girls interacting with different beetles. Each page highlights a different beetle, with a short story about either their behavior, food, or appearance.[return]This is likely to be a book that adults first read to children, but with enough intriguing ideas to inspire them to learn more later.
