A topographical and statistical description of the county of Hants (Cooke's topography of Great Britain) by George Alexander Cooke
The entry for Cosham, page 168, is as follows: 'Cosham is about four miles and a half from Portsmouth, where there is a National-school, founded by the curate, for sixty boys and girls; there are also alms-houses for four poor widows'. Nowadays I have heard say that it is full of chavs.
