My Review: It's astounding to me this book is not topping the sales charts as we get to the Yule gift-giving orgy. It is beautiful; it is timely, being about nature's glories that climate change has out under threat; it is by a talented young woman on a mission. Here is her bio, as provided by the publisher:
What are you waiting for? Go get one! Put it on your coffee table, gift it to your camping/outdoorsy giftee, give it to the grandkid/nibling/teen girl looking for a way to get into STEM fields...nothing like seeing what someone like you has already done to get you moving yourownself.
You want to see some pretty pictures?
grizzly bears are a.maz.ing animals
wolves, otters, beaver, and moose are as well
That's just *one* of Yellowstone's biomes she's put in this book. I'm eager for everyone to go look at this beautiful object, and put it in the hands of someone who will love and delight in it. Like I do, and I think you will.
This image is the one I fell hardest for:
Bison, majestic, gloriously hardy animals we almost exterminated; bringing them back has made me proud to be human, again. show less

Julia Cook is a wildlife photographer and conservationist based in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem of Wyoming. Growing up in Cody, Wyoming, less than an hour from Yellowstone National Park, Julia developed a love for nature at an early age, eventually leading her to pick up wildlife photography as a creative outlet. Julia graduated from the University of Wyoming in 2023 with a B.S. in Environment and Natural Resources and a B.A. in History, with human wildlife conflicts and the history of conservation practices in Yellowstone being a particular area of focus throughout her studies. Now working full-time as a wildlife photographer, Julia spends most of her free time in the field photographing various species of wildlife, though grizzly bears are a favorite. Other hobbies include drawing, hiking, fishing, and camping. Julia’s overall goal in photography is to capture impactful images of native wildlife to promote wildlife conservation while inspiring others to spend meaningful time in nature. Julia is also dedicated to ethical wildlife photography to keep wildlife wild and allow them to behave naturally without interference.

The story appears simple enough, yet it highlights the life skills of critical thinking, psychological resilience, and developing self-worth in a context nearly everyone can relate to. All this is beautifully packaged in the delightful illustrations by Dale Crawford which are brilliantly colored, positively adorable, and fun.
Well suited for reading alone or WITH someone of any age including ESL, and perfect for gifting to everyone, but especially to a school, worship center, or your public show more library!

I Just Don't Like the Sound of No! My Story About Accepting No for an Answer and Disagreeing the Right Way! (Best Me I Can Be) by Julia Cook
This book is trying it's best to advertise good manners and how kids can acquire the necessary life skill. I didn't really like this book, but the message is sound. This made me consider how other people aren't raised to respect authority figures and take no as an answer. The dialog between me and my parents has grown as I've gotten older, and I certainly wouldn't have been given a lengthy explanation for why I should accept no as an answer.
My Mouth Is a Volcano! By…Julia Cook
In my opinion, this is a great book for children. It addresses the importance of being polite and not interrupting adults while they are talking. The author uses a sense of humor to teach young students the value of respecting others and waiting their turn to talk within a conversation. I like how the author captures the children’s tendency to immediately speak their mind, while also teaching them the appropriate time to express their thoughts. This show more story is told from Louis’ perspective and provides adults with an exciting way to educate children on the significance of listening to one another before interrupting. The main character, Louis, has a problem with interrupting others and the author compares his talkative mouth to a volcano erupting. I love her use of figurative language when making this comparison. When Louis does a presentation in front of the whole class, some of his classmates interrupt him. This is when he finally realizes how rude it can be to talk over others. I thought this book did an excellent job demonstrating life skills and manners in an appropriate way. The story is very relatable and allows readers to connect with the feelings of the characters. In addition, the illustrations are bright and expressive. The repetition used throughout the book is extremely effective and delivers the message in a creative manner. The overall writing was well organized and flowed in a way that engages the reader. I liked how the book pushes young readers to think about similar situations they encounter on a daily basis. Louis is told many times to utilize strategies that will help his “volcano from erupting” but he is convinced he can’t do anything about it. Personally, I liked how the author waited until the end of the story for Louis’ presentation, when he himself was interrupted. It took Louis until this point of the story to develop an understanding of not interrupting others. I also like how towards the end of the book, Louis was given a talk from his mom to ensure he recognized the importance of communicating in a respectful manner. The structure of this story kept the readers interested throughout and the readers were often eager to find out what would happen next. show less
