I know I have been down on my of the Boys Town Books, but that is not the case this time. This book does a great job of not only introducing new cultures, but in teaching kids what to do when a person, process, or event is different from what they consider normal. Things like asking questions, trying new things, and listening to what others have to say so you can gain new knowledge. The art work goes nicely with the story, and it is all around a great book for a classroom or a library.
This is a great way to teach flexible thinking to young students, and the book gives steps for students to follow when they start to get frustrated. The story follows a young boy who learns how to use flexible thinking when events happen in his life that are out of his control. I think this is a great book to read to primary students and use these steps in the classroom to help students understand why plans change.
This was a book full of information to help kids manage stress. It was well done and the example were spot on. It didn’t come across as preachy or know it all. It was well done and a great tool for parents and teachers alike.
As a parent of a child with ADHD, I love the concept of this book! I appreciate how the adults in this book treat the main character with such patience; which is something many children with ADHD don't receive. The repetition of the acrostic of F.O.C.U.S. is very helpful! I do feel this book is a little lengthy and may be hard for some children to get through but overall, this book is a very good resource for parents and young children.
