We love this book. The illustrations are fun and bright, and the story is told in rhyme that is short and thankfully well-written. It's all about dinosaurs, which is an instant draw for kids, and focuses on antonyms by juxtaposing dinosaurs with opposite traits. The quality of the rhythm makes it a good choice for read aloud, and the ending is oodles of fun if you pretend to eat your audience just like the dinosaurs are chowing down. We always have a fun tickle fest at the end. I highly show more recommend this book for entry readers and the whole family. show less
Introducing young readers to abstract ideas such as length, strength, and emotion using bright, saturated illustrations, this board book couples excellent creatures and concepts. The book's simple rhyme scheme and expressive dinosaurs sure to please young fans of prehistoric monsters. Subsequent readings may see children guessing at what each image represents, engaging them with learning the meaning behind the words depicted. However, some of the illustrations may inhibit understanding of show more the book's concepts. The illustrations for "slow" and "fast," for instance, may prove difficult. In order to maintain the desired rhyme scheme, the "fast" dinosaurs are on the left hand page, physically behind the large, lumbering "slow" dinosaur situated on the right. Still, with a solid concept and the lasting appeal of dinosaurs behind it, "Dinosaur Opposites" is a good read for young children. show less
Once again Paul Strickland’s dinosaurs have come out to delight young dinosaur fans with a rip roaring counting book. The front cover features our ten terrible dinosaurs, who are in fact happy, smiling dinosaurs and look like they are ready to have some fun.
Strickland uses the tried and true method of rhyming verse in this educational and fun counting book. Starting at ten with a large number 10 in digits at the start of the text, the ten terrible dinosaurs are standing in a line.
The show more watercolour illustrations are bright and whimsical, but as we know dinosaurs can be cheeky and they soon begin to mess around. It gets a bit rough and one poor dinosaur is scared so leaves. When the page is turned the number 9 is shown in digits first and then the text.
This book was another hit here. I really don’t think the children will ever tire of playing with, looking at and reading about dinosaurs.
I liked that the numbers were in digits and text side by side which gives a visual connection of the two.
Strickland’s use of alliteration and rhyming adds an extra element of fun to the reading and listening.
We had seven silly dinosaurs, five feisty dinosaurs and two tetchy dinosaurs. The book ends with a sneaky loud ROAR! Those dinosaurs really are tricky.
Ten Terrible Dinosaurs is a book that has been loved for the past two decades and is sure to be loved for decades to come.

"Dinosaur fast, dinosaur slow". Dinosaur Roar is a delightful book using pictures of colorful and comical dinosaurs and rhyming to teach children about opposites. I really had fun reading this book and looking at the illustrations. The illustrations bring the dinosaurs to life and do a good job of illustrating emotions. When the text says, "Dinosaur sweet, dinosaur grumpy" the dinosaurs really do appear to be sweet or grumpy. With simple text and an average of two words per page the story is show more great for a quick read aloud or for independent reading for young children who have not yet developed advanced reading skills. Even children who are not yet literate will enjoy looking at the pictures on their own and contrasting the two different dinosaurs shown. show less
