Um, can you say bravo?! An intelligent, humorous, supernatural & erotic story of love, strength & choices, The Last True Vampire delivers! Claire is a sassy, strong & sarcastic woman who was realistic and interesting - so many of her reactions were what I would have either done or thought, which lent a realistic touch that is often missing in other romantic novels. Mikhail, the strong, gorgeous, intelligent vampire lead heated things up, caught my attention & held it! The plot is unique in show more its ideas & details, which holds The Last True Vampire apart from other vampire romances out there. I'm impressed, thoroughly hooked, and can't wait to see what's on board for Ronan in Baxters next novel. If you're a fan of intelligent supernatural romance, this one's for you! show less
The last vampire on earth after the slayers killed all others, the hero lives a lonely empty existence. The dhampires, half vampires who live on the energy of full blooded vampires are slowly dying as the hero becomes more and more lifeless. One night, when he forces himself to fee for the first time in 3 months, he finds her. The woman who's to be his mate, the woman who will save his soul and redeem him to his full power and at the same time save all of those people who depend on him. The show more heroine is out for one more heist before she calls it quits to live a law abiding life. She spots the wealthy hansom man across the room and instantly forgets all her well placed rules about becoming attached to her marks. He's primitive and captivating and though she gives herself to him, she flees in fear of her emotions. A few weeks go by as the hero frantically searches for his mate before the slayers find her. He saves he from an attack and kidnaps her and brings her to his mansion. There, in his fear for her safety and to satisfy his overwhelming urge to protect her, he imprisons her in his house. He really went a bit crazy in his need to have her with him. He became ruthlessly protective and possessive even when it was very apparent such behavior was doing nothing to win him favor with his woman. I thought this to be what you'd call a 'traditional' paranormal romance. It certainly had a formula that I've seen before in more than one other book in the genre but I can say that I did enjoy it. The whole story line was amazing and different and wonderful creative. I really really liked the heroine. I though she was funny and so strong and independent. I thought her protests to believing in the hero's world were legit. I mean, imagine what you would think when the man you just slept with proclaims your his mate and that you are meant to be with each other and that he's never ever letting you go. I'd think he was freaking crazy nuts as well. And though the heroine couldn't help her attraction to the hero or what compelled her to seek him out whenever he was near, she did have a level head about things. She didn't leap right into his world without a healthy dose of rebellion. I liked the hero though at times I could have smacked him in hopes it would snap him out of his sever caveman like attitude towards his mate. He was bit over the top and chaotic with a big dose of dramatic but the guy has the responsibility of all those half vampires on his shoulders so he's allowed to be a bit manic. Very nice read though not mind blowing. show less
The Wicked Vampire by Kate Baxter
Last True Vampire #6
Having read books 4 and now 6 of this series my gut feeling is that to truly enjoy the series it would be better to begin with book one and read consecutively. I did enjoy this book and followed the storyline of Sasha the vampire and Ewan the berserker BUT there were many names and couples dropped that I had little or no idea of or how they played into the storyline.
What I liked:
* The bond between the two was unexpected and something show more they had no control over
* Both H/h were strong characters
* The eventual confrontation between Saeed and Sasha – semi-confrontation
* The ties that some of the characters had with one another
* Ewan’s regard for his cousin Drew
* The growth in the relationship between Sasha & Ewan
What I didn’t like:
* The domineering attitude of Ewan at first
* Fights to the death idea
* Sasha being so “weak” in some ways
* Not knowing who all the players were and how the side-story-threads were to be woven together or who the people actually were
* The demons
* Ian Gregor – top dog Berserker (hope he has a reason to be such a scumbag)
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.

I will admit in the last few years I've been off my vampires. I just haven't been feeling them. I've stuck with a few old favorites but other then that, I haven't read anyone new in a very long time.
That is until I found Kate Baxter.
I was sent a review copy of her The Last True Vampire and just feel in love with this series. I found it well written with likable characters and ton of humor. We all know how much I love humor in my books.
I need it!
For me each book has gotten better and show more better. I'm really invested in this world. I want to know what happens next the second I finish the book I'm reading.
You couldn't ask for a better story then that!
You get to know Jenner slightly in the prior book. It's enough to want to know more. I was really intrigued by him. He had a huge chip on his shoulder and I wanted to know why?
Oh boy did I learn out why!
When I started The Dark Vampire I found myself right away falling for Jenner. Yes, he has a past, but I wasn't sure if I believed it totally. Sometimes we blow up things and make them bigger then they are.
When I learn what happened his Jenner's past I was like...well! But I didn't think that one act defined him. There is so much more to him and you learn that in this book.
Now Bria is a different story. I wanted to like like her but she acted like what I hate so much in heroines.
She has a attribute of...I can take care of myself and I don't need anyone's help! More then once she mentions being able to take care of herself. I got tired of hearing it. As the book moves she does grow up some but never enough for me.
I didn't hate her as a character, just felt she was immature. I even got why. That's why I gave her such a long rope.
As a whole I enjoyed The Dark Vampire very much and even with a few issues found it to be such a good story. Now I have to sit here and wait for the next book to be out...I wish I knew when!!!!
