I'm sorry but this book was a really tough read. I don't hate it, but getting involved and caring for the characters was so hard. I dreaded picking it up because I didn't care for anyone.

They're on the first date, first kiss, and she's already calling him "Mi amor" (my love). I'm sorry, what? She's complaining that he doesn't care for her when they've only met in person twice! - It would've played better if she was 18-22, but she’s a grown woman, come on!

And HIM! He’s an adult man show more (turned immortal at 30)- He's been watching and caring for her (her soul) since she was a child... and now he's sexually into her and in love with her? That's creepy! I love my romances, but this one... nope.

Also, one personal gripe, I'm not taking off any stars for this but; I hate when books have non-linear timelines of the same characters. The constant use of flashbacks makes it confusing and/or exasperating. I wish the timeline had been handled more clearly.

This is the type of book that you can get drawn into right away. Which is always a great thing when I instantly connect with a story and the characters. Even before I really knew Nathan, I already felt connected to him. He had that aura about him.

I thought that Mayela's profession did lend nicely to the story. Where is a bit of a build up before us readers learn about what the Hunting Grounds is all about. The story does shift back and forth between the present and the Hunting Grounds.

This show more story is a bit of a history lesson as well. Nathan has captured a lot of famous souls. There were some I had never heard of before. Looking for your next fast, paced read then pick up this book. show less
Disclaimer I won this as an early reader.
The following is my honest review.

This book start a little slow for me but picked up speed as I went. The world building left me a little confused but also curious for more. The duel timeline took a little getting used to but overall, it was an interesting read and I would 100% read the remainder of the series.
The author has a way of painting pictures that are fully fleshed out. I could envision different scenes that were in the book.

The characters were relatable and easy to understand. The magic system was iffy for me at first and I wasn’t really sure if I would like it but I did end up enjoying the book. I do feel that there is room to build and develop this story and world more but it was still good and I’d recommend to anyone who loves an age gap and sci-fi/fantasy
