This is quite a good travel guide for the subcontinent of India. I chose this book to take with me to India over other guides, such as Lonely Planet, since it offers more description and historical background of the sites it describes. While in India, however, I found that the depth of coverage of individual sites comes at the expense of breadth - a number of sites that my wife and I felt should have been included, especially in the state of Andhra Pradesh, were not. Still, I grew quite fond show more of this book while traveling the subcontinent, and I have yet to find another travel guide to India that I would take in place of this one. show less
I checked out and surveyed every book on Scotland my library had before purchasing the One Book that would guide us through our trip. This was my favorite of the lot by a good measure. It was terribly handy in helping us plan our travels and assisted us greatly in filling our down time, even in the more remote areas we visited.
Outdated, tiresomely historical and highly negative throughout, this is absolutely inferior to the concise Kerala chapter of the Lonely Planet's excellent South India guide.
The first couple of times that we traveled the island of Corsica this guide was of great help. Together with the Marco Polo "Korsika, Die general Karte"-map it assisted us in finding nice places to stay, eat and experience. Highly recommended.
