Love the use of maps and timelines to reinforce the big picture. I decided to buy this excellent reference book after viewing a library copy. I love how this resource lays out the geography, culture, and history of the ancient world with well organized artifacts and illustrations. Offers explanations of cultural developments from the first villages established post hunter gathering nomadic cultures to the whys for big cities, religions, specialized jobs, and the development of the need for show more levels of leadership. show less
This does the job of an encyclopedia of history fairly well. It's great for young adults at about an 8-14 year old reading level. Gives just a taste of the history of various times with timelines.

This book would be very useful in a unit regarding Ancient Egypt, and would allow students a more in-depth look at the role of he pyramids. The use of photos, drawings, and text are well balanced, however the book does have a slightly dated feel to it and despite being a good resource may not stand out as much to students.

World History is a remarkable journey through the history of the human race. Anyone with a need to set history into context will welcome the highly visual approach. Its penetrating investigation into the emergence of people and the very first settlements, through ancient civilizations to the present day, will answer questions and stimulate interest.

- Detailed Maps
- Date panels of key interest
- Quick reference timelines
