The Tuskegee Student Uprising by Brian Jones provides a well-written well-documented look at Tuskegee University from its founding in 1881 by Booker T Washington with special emphasis on the student uprising of 1968. Using both primary and secondary sources including interviews with many of the students involved, he outlines its causes, its ultimate goals, actions taken, what it achieved and what it didn’t. Jones also looks at class differences and attitudes among the Black population of show more Tuskegee as well as between Blacks and Whites and how these affected the university throughout its history. A very interesting and accessible read. At a time when the teaching of real history is under attack, books like this are more important than ever
