Disambiguation Notice:
I'm dubious that the Beautiful/Colorful books are by the same author as the baseball books, but I can find no information either way. I also suspect that if (the baseball) Curran was born in 1921 he's no longer with us, but again I can find no information online.

Not a bad book, really, but I was hoping for better. It's pretty superficial. Much of this is the book's age; a similar book written today would be informed by different statistics.
Oddly, it's clear Curran was aware of the need for better defensive statistics, and also aware that some were being developed by such folks as Bill James and Craig Wright, both of whom he mentions (he even quotes Wright, near the end of the book). Of course we're now a couple generations along, and the available show more statistics might have overwhelmed his story-telling.
Way too many lists of people's names with only slight context. And a couple jokes that probably wouldn't have made it past modern copyeditors. show less
