Few test prep books explore the causes of slow reading, instead focusing on symptoms. Any real improvement in reading comprehension will come only when inefficient reading habits are removed.

The first half of this book looks at eight factors that reduce your reading rate, reading in thought groups (without having to read every word), the five types of reading and ignoring words that are not important. It also looks at rapid reading techniques, like keyword noting, mind maps, taking notes, show more strips reading and active reading.

The second half of the book is more focused on the Specialized High School Achievement Test (a test to get into New York City's specialized high schools). It explores things like dealing with difficult passages, getting hyper focused for the test and strategies for dealing with the different types of questions that may be in the Test.

For anyone about to take the SHSAT, this book is very highly recommended. It is equally recommended for students of any age. Improving reading speed and comprehension is a very good thing, regardless of where you are in your education.

This book is intended to help students prepare for the vocabulary sections of the Digital Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

There is no mass memorization of words, as in previous tests. Now, the test is all about understanding high-frequency, real-world words in context. This concentrates on things like antonyms, synonyms, homonyms and words in context in larger paragraphs.

The test is timed, so the individual tests in this book are timed. It will help the student to show more make quick decisions on test day. It also helps to keep studying from getting overwhelming.

This is very much recommended for any student preparing for the test. It is also worth the time and money for students of any age who need help with their vocabulary.

This book is designed to help with the vocabulary part of the Digital SAT Test (evidently, it's an updated version of the "classic" SAT Test). This version concentrates on understanding words in context and applying them in everyday situations.

Each separate test includes sections on words in context (short and long form). It also includes sections on synonyms, homonyms, synonyms in context and antonyms. Each test has a time show more limit, to give the student some practice for when it is time for the actual test. As always, answers for each test are in the back of the book.

This book is very much worth reading for any student about to take the Digital SAT. It is also recommended for students of any age.

The well-known, and much-feared, SAT exam is an important indicator of a person's future success in college, and after college. This book presents 500 words that frequently show up in the exam.

For each vocabulary word in this book, ranging from "abject" to "zephyr," the proper pronunciation is given, along with a one-line definition of the word. The word is used in a pair of sentences, and appropriate antonyms and synonyms are listed. There is also a "Further Information" section, usually show more including the Greek or Latin word from which the word comes. There are many practice tests, with answers, to solidify your new knowledge.

This book is very much recommended for any high school student planning to take the SAT exam. It is also recommended for students of any age who need help with their vocabulary.
