Look, I'm what the authors call a Wing-nut, so this book appealed and will get a fan's eye in reviewing it.

There's a ton of backstage detail about the writing, casting, and production of the series, which is super fun to read. Lot's an information about the relationships between the cast and production crew, as well as a good bit about the shenanigans behind the scenes. There's even the back story on Rob Lowe's unceremonious departure from the show, and he doesn't end up looking too great show more for it.

The bonus is that the book also talks about everyone's service projects, and encourages action, whether in relation to those projects or in some other way.

On balance, there is a little too much review of the shows themselves - I don't need a synopsis of episodes because I know the show already. So, it gets a little sloggish at certain points.

4 bones!!!!
Recommended, primarily for the fans.

The West Wing is one of my favourite TV shows ever, so when I heard about this book it was straight to my TBR. If you love the show then it will be right up your street, although even I found it at times a little bit rose tinted glasses. I doubt there were no arguments or problems or personality clashes!
But if you want to remember what it was like when you imagined that US politicians cared about anyone than themselves, then this book will give you a happy feeling.

This one is decidedly for fans of The West Wing. Filled with lots of behind the scenes details from the whole run of the show and beyond, the book also includes (as might be deduced from the title) stories about how members of the cast have also engaged in causes near and dear to their hearts. While I enjoyed the read, it is very chunky, and likely could have used another editorial pass. Trying to jam together both the oral-esque history of the show with sections on service causes that show more various cast and crew members engage in doesn't always quite work. But it is a lovely way to revisit the series and will likely inspire the desire for a rewatch. show less
