I was a little confused as I read this GN version of Romulus and Remus. Perhaps there is too much information missing, as events seem to jump around and there seem to be gaps in the events that unfold. The major characters summaries in the front and the family tree at the back helped somewhat with the organization of the story, but I think that children will be left with many questions as to the how and why of these events.
An enjoyable telling of the myth of the "four dragons" who became the 4 main rivers in mainland China. The four dragons are punished for being compassionate to humans, but still find a way to continue helping after they have been "imprisoned" in mountains. The graphic representation are perhaps a bit cartoony, but I think they still sit well with the story as it is told.
Roman Mythology, along with the Greek Mythology volume in the entry below, is part of a series of graphic novels about myths from around the world. In addition to the story of Romulus, Remus, and the legendary founding of Rome, Daning opens the book by introducing the main characters. At the conclusion of the story, the book features a Roman mythology family tree, a glossary, and Web resources in addition to an index. Daning presents the Romulus and Remus myth in an attractive package that show more makes learning the tale relatively painless for elementary-aged students. show less
