Slim attractive volume provides a compelling read with a considerable amount of information I didn't know. Simultaneously inspiring and devastating, but always clear, objective, and genuine.

The writing shows great respect for the ongoing struggle African-Americans suffered and continue to experience trying to improve their lives and the lives of their children. And shines the light on the Harlem Renaisance's short-lived success stories, fueled by the strength, passion and efforts of so many show more to change attitudes, hearts and minds. The effects of the Harlem Renaissance changed and enhanced American culture. But it wasn't enough to prevent and protect African Americans from heart-breaking poverty and deprivation especially after stock market crash and depression. And because of hate, fear, greed, they were denied access to job training, employment opportunities, and decent housing; basics fto survive and thrive. And the results were predictably disastrous.
