Reviews
The introductory chapter of this book is a lovely panegyric to the Golden State pre-war (WWII); it reads almost like poetry. Addresses ecological and conservation issues in a quite balanced way...not to be confused with the politically correct 'environmentalism' of the 21st century. Dasmann was Professor of Ecology at Humboldt State (CA) University, and U.C. Santa Cruz.
Published for IUCN and the Conservation Foundation. Written from the point of view of an ecologist for the use of those concerned with development, with particular emphasis on ecosystems currently under heavy development pressure. (Google Books)
First copyright 1959. From lectures of Carl O. Sauer, UC
