Finnish American Rag Rugs: Art, Tradition, and Ethnic Continuity
Yvonne Lockwood
Cost: $19.77 thru Amazon
Pages: 249
Hardcover.
I had briefly paged thru this book at a guild meeting a couple of months ago and decided to place an order for it. Probably for 2 reasons - I am Finnish and I weave rugs. If there was a weaving book that could be called a "coffee table book" - this one could fit into that category.
Chapters Include:
* The History of Rag Weaving
* Finnish American Presence
* Weavers
* A Good show more Rug Requires a Good Loom
* The Weaving Process
* Aesthetics
* Influences on Tradition
* The Life Cycle of a Rag Rug
* Learning From Masters
* Concluding Thoughts
Appendices
* Weavers and Loom Makers
* Locations of Weavers and Loom Makers
* Rag Rug Apprenticeships
* Warping the Loom
* Portrait of a Loom
* Designs from 1920-1940s
There are many color photos and some black and white.
There are no patterns in this book. It is more of a history and rag rug inspiration book.
This is not something I'd be able to pick and read in a series of days - but definitely something to enjoy during the evenings and cold winter days. show less
